Mobile-XL™ and Orange Launch XL Live USSD Portal to provide universal access to mobile content in Cameroon

Santa Monica, Calif. July 1, 2013 – Today Orange and Mobile-XL™ officially launch the XL Live USSD portal which gives Orange Cameroon subscribers easy, unlimited access to local and global content at an affordable rate.

The XL Live USSD Portal allows all mobile users, and particularly those without a data plan or data enabled device (over 90% of the base) to still get connected to digital information. By simply dialing #142#, subscribers can now access a wide range of services including Facebook, football news, information and entertainment content as well as health related services.

This initiative aims to enrich the lives of mobile subscribers in Cameroon, expand the reach of Orange Products and Services and demonstrate both companies’ complementary mission to actively enable and facilitate access to mobile content for all segments of the market.

“Mobile-XL™ strives to empower the world with relevant and affordable content using basic messaging channels as well as advanced data technologies”, said Guy Kamgaing, CEO of Mobile-XL™. “This partnership supports our vision by allowing Orange to differentiate its services while delivering otherwise unattainable mobile content to the people of Cameroon across all media available and with a pleasant user experience.”

“As a leader in supporting the development of global communities at a local level, Orange shares Mobile-XL’s vision of enriching people’s lives through universal access to content”, said Mamadou Mbengue, CMO Orange Cameroon. “With the potential to offer this service to all its mobile users in Cameroon, Mobile-XL™ is helping our goals to level the playing field for on-demand access to information, content and entertainment.”

Complementary to the XLBrowser, the XL Live USSD portal offers access to Facebook, football scores and updates from local tournaments and foreign leagues, education tools (dictionary and translation), utility features like currency exchange, life tips and sms games. It also includes an innovative life-saving application that tells users the location of the nearest pharmacy 24/7 in case of emergencies.

The menu of the XL Live portal will expand progressively throughout the years to include services like local news, local business listings, local jobs, local event information, local TV or bus schedules, email access, other social networks, trading applications and mobile payment functionalities.

This service is being offered exclusively to Orange Customers in Cameroon.
